Blue Mountain Beach got its name from the blue lupine flowers lining its 64-foot elevated hills, which explorers thought were mountains. 

 

In addition to its scenic beaches, dense forests, and coastal dune lakes, Blue Mountain Beach features luxurious villas, gated communities, single-family homes, and several condominiums. There are also one-of-a-kind shops, restaurants, and various 30A community events. Blue Mountain Beach is the perfect place to unwind amid scenic vistas and escape the crowds.

 

 

Blue Mountain Beach has a low-key vibe. The neighborhood has fewer tourists than other parts of 30A, which provides a peaceful and serene environment, and locals like it that way. However, first-class amenities and attractions are just 13 miles away in Destin, Florida, where Blue Mountain Beach residents can swim on sandbars, take sunset cruises, and delight in some of the best seafood fares. 

 

Many residents live in Blue Mountain Beach year-round, while others own properties here as a second home or rent their spaces to vacationers. During the tourist season, there is more traffic, and locals can often get around their community via bicycles and golf carts. Shuttles and the Turtle Express, a free trolley service, are available during summer.

Cool off from the Florida heat with a sweet treat at Blue Mountain Beach Creamery, which features ice cream and frozen yogurt. 

 

If you are an art connoisseur or a budding artist, a visit to Justin Gaffrey Gallery is a must. The gallery is home to an extensive collection of unusual sculptures and three-dimensional paintings that must be seen to be believed. 

 

There are many events and places to roam in Blue Mountain Beach. Join thousands of neighbors at the annual 30A Songwriters Festival. A portion of this four-day music extravaganza’s proceeds goes to the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County. The Timpochee Bike Trail is a great way to get up close and personal with the area’s beautiful green spaces. This paved trail covers 19 miles and crosses several photo-worthy bridges, all while weaving hikers and cyclists along 30A’s most iconic neighborhoods. 

 

Not far from the beach is the Point Washington State Forest. With more than 10 miles of hiking and biking trails, numerous camping sites, and horseback riding paths, Point Washington State Forest is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. Blue Mountain Beach is also home to three of the 15 coastal dune lakes in south Walton County. These coastal dune lakes are especially rare and have only been found in parts of Australia, New Zealand, Madagascar, Oregon, and here in Walton County. 

 

Nearby, Grayton Beach State Park in Santa Rosa Beach boasts a truly mesmerizing museum that is an absolute must-see — but only if you can scuba dive. Beyond the park’s shoreline and beneath the waves is The Underwater Museum of Art, which features an array of unique underwater sculptures that can only be viewed from 58 feet under the water.
